Greenpeace video

Greenpeace Inspiring Action

For me, this video was such an eye-opener to what is really going on. We talk about these kinds of situations in class and stuff, but its not the same as actually witnessing it on video. Although development is primarily good for us, I believe that we don't have to go through such destructive measures develop. I know that I may not fully understand the things going on in the video, but some parts of it really stuck me. One of this parts was the whaling footage in the beginning. Its so sad to see such a beautiful animal get killed for such selfish reasons.
This video inspires me to do something to help our world in any way I can, and I'm sure that it inspires so many others to do the same. The sad thing is, although people may be inspired at the moment, many people don't end up doing much after they get distracted by their own problems.

Disaster Reflection

The devastation brought to the people affected by the Typhoon Haiyan is unbelievable. Its to see so many lives lost and so many suffering from the effects. Almost everything has been taken from these people, they've lost their homes, families, and so many other belongings. Now all they have are each other, and they rely on the government and the actions of relief operations to keep them alive. What amazes me the most is the positive attitude of the Filipino people. It is seen again and again on different news channels. Many times the children are seen playing in the floods and people continue to smile at the news camera's. Some say that it is related to the Filipino's devotion to the Catholic religion, but we dont know for sure. Seeing the effects of a storm like this should encourage people to help in any small way that they can. There are so many opportunities for communities and families to contribute to the restoration of these people's livelihood. So I believe that there is no excuse for someone to not take any action in helping the victims. Many organisations like Red Cross have made it so easy for people to donate money, clothes, goods, etc.
